Continuous Professional Development

I am at the end of the Professional Master in Education in Art and Design with Digital Media however my professional development as a teacher and artist is only beginning. There are many areas in my teaching career and my artist practice that I wish to expand on and develop further for myself and for the students I will be engaging with in my career. I believe it is important to continue learning and engaging with personal education continuously throughout my career to provide valuable and engaging experiences for my students.

In the immediate future I hope to further engage with the area of SEN as a field of study so that students of all levels and difficulties can fully engage with the visual art curriculum in a meaningful way. I fully support new educational and curriculum developments in student and teacher well-being. I wish to further develop my  teaching strategies and student support structures to create a positive and supportive learning environment in my classroom.

As a student I attended a gaelscoil and was fortunate to have the opportunity to return to teach there during my school placements. I have maintained a good level of Irish from my secondary school days. I hope to further engage with the Irish language in my practice. I will continue to improve my skills in speaking and writing Irish by partaking in Irish courses and joining Irish speaking groups to practice and strengthen my confidence in speaking our native language.

My art practice to date has been heavily focused on design and digital media but after engaging with different areas of practice through the PME course, I am now looking to expand my own practice, with particular emphasis on the discipline of print-making. I believe it is important to foster a community of practice and I look forward to meeting and engaging with artists of all disciplines while I part-take in workshops and courses to further develop my own practice.
